Summary:

A Google Business Profile is a free online profile that you can use to promote your business and make you for more discoverable in local search results like 'plumber near me' which is great for generating high quality leads.

Google Business Search Result Example

It is capable of showing your details in local search results like these on Google Maps. It puts your business contact details, website, opening hours, reviews and more right in front of your local customers who are actively searching for your service. So let's get into how to make a Google Business Account.

Create Your Google Business Profile:

Head over to Google Business. This is where you will set up your account and manage it.

Sign Into Or Create A Google Account:

Log in with a Google Account. Most people will already have one but if you don't, then sign up for a free account at Google Accounts.

Enter Your Business Details:

Now that you have logged in Google Business will guide you through the process of making an account. You will need to provide your business name, address and category. Make sure everything is spelled correctly and looks good, this is going to be what your potential customers see when they find you!

Note: During these initial stages, getting you're account set-up and visible is more important than making it perfect. You can go back through and update everything later on, check out our optimising your Google business Page article for more info

Create A Compelling About Section:

Fill out as much information as you can about your business. Make sure you have up to date opening hours and contact details. The about section is your chance to talk about why your services are great and what makes your business unique, unfortunately I see so many businesses that don't fill it out. Here's an example of what mine says:

"We specialise in creating custom websites for tradesmen across Australia. Our goal is to give you a platform to showcase your services and skills online to attract more clients and ultimately grow your business. From design through to launch, we have everything covered so that you can boost your online presence with confidence."

Final Words & Advice:

I hope this helped you get your Google Business Profile up and running. Please note that while Google Business is a fantastic tool to generate traffic and help you to appear in local search results, it is not a substitute for a real website and it does not create a website for you.

You're online but there is more that needs to be done to give you the best chance at being visible, we need to refine your service areas, what services you provide, post some images and updates and get some reviews. Learn more about that in our optimising your Google Business page guide.
